As a pickleball enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for gear that can enhance my gameplay, especially as I’ve been improving my skills over the past year. When JOOLA announced their new paddle, featuring the Carbon Grip Surface (CGS) and designed in collaboration with world #1 player Ben Johns, I was excited to put it to the test. I hoped this paddle would help me dominate my serves and create more spin, while also providing the comfort and control I required.

The paddle turned out to be as aggressive as advertised, boasting an expanded hitting area that truly facilitates better plays. One of the standout features is the unique Aero Curve head design, which reduces drag and increases swing speed. From my first serve, I could feel the enhanced power and spin coming off the paddle. This was confirmed by other players I encountered on the court; one note was that the rough surface texture significantly improved the ball’s spin—definitely a game changer.

In my experience, I found the paddle to have excellent control and a comfortable grip. The Sure-Grip technology helped keep my hand dry during intense matches and reduced shock absorption, which was particularly beneficial for longer playing sessions. This aligns with many user reviews praising the paddle’s feel and lightweight nature—attributes that enhance maneuverability on the court.

However, it wasn’t all perfect. Some customers mentioned a lack of durability, and I can see where they’re coming from. After several sessions, I noticed some minor markings on the surface, which may not have affected performance but raised concerns about longevity. One reviewer pointed out a similar issue, stating that dirt tends to gather in the paddle’s rough texture, requiring periodic cleaning. A simple pickleball eraser will do the trick, but it’s an additional step I found somewhat inconvenient.

Another potential downside for some players—myself included—is the paddle’s weight distribution. While many have found it perfectly balanced for dynamic play, I struggled slightly with the weight feeling uneven. It took some time to adjust to the center of gravity being farther from the handle, which was echoed by at least one reviewer who found it a bit heavy for personal preference. But once I settled into my swing, I appreciated the power that this design offered.

In terms of performance, this paddle more than met my expectations. I experienced a noticeable improvement in both my serve and volley strokes. As someone who historically favored a two-handed backhand, I found the longer grip of this paddle enhanced my control, allowing me to execute shots with greater precision.

Overall, the JOOLA Vision paddle is a solid choice for intermediate players looking to elevate their game. While it has its shortcomings, such as potential durability issues and weight distribution concerns, the incredible spin, grip comfort, and power it provides significantly outweigh those drawbacks—especially for the price.

If you’re serious about improving your skills and are willing to put in the practice, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this paddle a try. It might just be the upgrade you need to elevate your pickleball experience!
