About Patrick Smith
Patrick Smith, a prominent figure in the pickleball community, grew up in Munich, Germany, where his early passion for sports was nurtured by his father, who coached him in tennis. After a year away from the sport, Smith accepted a Division 1 tennis scholarship at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. During his time there, he not only excelled on the court but also in academics, earning several accolades, including the Men’s Conference Player of the Year in 2010. He graduated with majors in Pre-Med, German, and Liberal Arts, along with a minor in Business. His educational journey continued with graduate studies, culminating in a Master’s degree in Business Administration, where he specialized in Finance and Entrepreneurship.
Smith’s introduction to professional pickleball came through the encouragement of fellow player Jocelyn Devilliers, and it wasn’t long before he found himself captivated by the sport. After retiring from professional tennis nearly a decade ago, Smith embraced the challenges and joys of returning to high-level competition in pickleball. Despite the demanding travel schedule that comes with the sport, he has relished the opportunity to compete again, showcasing his competitive spirit and skill.
A passionate and vocal athlete on the court, Smith is known for his enthusiasm and sportsmanship, which have endeared him to fans. He has earned various nicknames, including "the Winter Soldier," highlighting both his competitive edge and charisma.
Outside of pickleball, Smith leads an impressive career as the CEO of Hair by Robotics, a company specializing in hair transplants using advanced surgical robotics, along with other hair loss solutions. His dedication to personal fitness is evident in his active lifestyle, which includes gym workouts, hiking, traveling, and participating in CrossFit classes. Residing in Wichita, Kansas, he shares his life with his dog, Kaya, and enjoys staying connected to both his athletic pursuits and professional endeavors.
